Seamus Robinson (songwriter)

Seamus Robinson (Irish: Séamus Mac Roibín, 22 December 1939 – 14 September 2009) was an Irish composer born in the Carrick Hill area of Belfast, Northern Ireland. Working in the English or Irish language, he composed many patriotic ballads and folk-songs.

"Take Me Home To Mayo" aka "The Ballad of Michael Gaughan" is perhaps the most famous and most travelled of his songs. It is sung all over the world and has become an Irish republican standard.

Robinson wrote the children's anthem, "Mickey Marley's Roundabout", to immortalise the legendary Belfast hobby-horse man who gave so much joy to generations of Belfastians.

Robinson died in 2009 following a short battle with lung cancer.[1]
